Food chains start with the sun and the plants or producers need energy from the sun to produce the food.
Producers make their own food using photosynthesis and get their energy from the chemicals the decomposers put back in the soil.
Consumers eat producers and other consumers and get their energy from things they eat.
Decomposers break down the dead organisms and put the chemicals back into the soil
